Best in Class: Sensing at RoboCup 2022 in Bangkok, and Best in Class: Mapping at RoboCup 2023 in Bordeaux.

The 2023 entry ran 2D LiDAR mapping, which the category had not seen before. A search-and-rescue robot is scored on finding victims in a collapsed structure it has never entered, so the robot has to build its own map as it goes and remember where it has been. Camera-only entries could identify a victim but could not reliably say where it was.

I later ran Insper’s robotics and AI club, where I got the group a $40,000 budget by rebuilding the campus access app in exchange for it rather than asking for the money.
